With so many circuits having been released over the years and so many independent updates to many of them that although I know I have all the circuits, I've no idea which versions I have or with which updates.

Having a single track pack that collates and maintains a complete set of tracks with the best/latest updates all in one place would be a great resource for sure. I know it'd be a HUGE download... but a .rar containing a complete tracks folder that you literally just extract to your GPL folder... it can't get easier than that! We could use it as an opportunity to clear up/standardize the naming of circuits too so they look a bit neater as a collection.

My tracks folder currently sits at a little over 25Gb, which includes a bunch of alpha, betas, and other curiosities. With the general level of internet speeds and storage space people have these days, that shouldn't cause problems. New games downloaded via steam are regularly above 100Gb now.

Actually... we could even take this further. Maybe it's time to start thinking about a GPL 2024 installer that includes all the game, GEM+, Igor, tracks, mods etc as a single package that we'd just keep up to date from then onward as anything more is released. It'd never get easier for new or experienced players alike.
I did this in 2017. My readers really like it (quite a few downloads). There were all the mods and over 70 tracks.

Obviously it's the french .exe (F1 67) and it deserves to be updated but it could serve as a basis if you're interested.

I can give you the links if you want. In one part it is 2.6 GB and in 3 parts it is 0.8 GB, 1.6 GB and 160 MB.

.Year is a 12 kms track. What will you do of your remaining laps ?
.Don't ask what GPL can do for you, ask yourself what you can do for GPL.

Hi Dave,

As stated in the announcement, GPLRank supports whatever *.ini file (e.g., Dave4President.ini) as far as its contents match the version selected on the drop-down list at the top (e.g., Grand Prix Legends 1968).

Without having seen the actual contents of your plae68.ini file, my very first guess would be that the file was not generated by one of the gpl*68.exe files. Please generate a new *.ini file with the mod and then bring those couple of laptimes you mentioned to it. Hopefully that will do the trick ;)

Cheers,
Gaizka

Not a big problem for me as I only have a couple of early times set.

Thanks for all your work guys.

Dave
Sounds like you're submitting the wrong file. For some reason, we seem to get a large number of various .ini files written now to all drivers/mods... but there's only one in each that's actually the one you want to submit to GPLRank.
For the '68s... the file you're looking for is plax68.ini
Ignore any other .ini file you have in your '68 drivers' folders. plax68.ini is the only one that matters for GPLRank.

After a little investigation I am assuming that GPLRank determines the mod from the text next to the carNumber entry in the [ Personal Information ] section? You were correct that in my Plae68.ini this text was wrong - although how this happened I have no idea as I have never manually edited this file. Anyway I edited the text to gpl68f1 and the file was accepted by GPLRank.

Thanks.

Darren,
How do you upload your laptimes for the 1968 BRM P261 V8, from the late carset? Whenever I create a new laptime for that car, and then upload the .ini file, the laptime is ignored. I can upload laptimes for the Brabham BT23B from the early carset, and all the other cars. But not the BRM P261 V8!
(If anyone else can answer this question, please feel free to chip in and help! )

UPDATE: I realised that I was creating a laptime at the wrong version of Kyalami! I switched to the correct version of the track, and created another BRM P261 V8 lap, but when I uploaded the .ini file this time, the laptime was recorded as a Brabham BT23 laptime! Can anyone explain this?

Not completely answering your problem, but there was this info previously at 'classic' SRMZ:

I can offer this small fix.
BRM P261 V8 lap time from late season carset will be saved under 'B23' tag in plax68.ini.

In game it will show proper car name, only tag in pax68.ini will be the same. At least lap times will not be erased.
Place this xml into <GPL folder>\Mods\GEM+\68gpl-Late\ and let GEM to rebuild exe files.

I expect this update is mentioned elsewhere, but admittedly I've not gone looking for it "out there"

Either use this info as it it, or gives you what to look for.

Dave, thanks for the info!
When I checked my '68 carset installation, I found that I had installed that 'late best lap fix' file some time ago. So I tried removing it, and that reverted my new laptimes back from being labelled as 'B23' to 'P261V8'. I tried uploading the updated .ini file to GPLRank, and it seems to work fine now!

I will be keeping a careful eye on things for the next few days/weeks, but it looks like the problem is now solved.
Thanks again for the help.
